I used to work graveyard shift, in a data processing office. I liked the quiet of it. There’s a certain peacefulness about empty cubicles and dimmed light.
One night, my boss wasn’t coming in. So it fell upon me to run the daily backup. This task was a big deal, getting it done properly and on time. I’d had only a quickie, 1-off training and I was insecure about screwing it up.
My boss was going to be available via phone during the process and repeatedly encouraged me to call her if I had questions. Which I did! But with just a few pointers along the way, I got it done and daily backup went off without hitch. Yay!
So you can imagine I was just a smidge taken aback the next day to hear my boss loudly and liberally complaining. About what?
How many phone calls she fielded from me.
Whaaaaaa?!?!
I was beyond pissed.
It’s funny now, but man, then? Whew.
Back then, I didn’t understand that it had nothing whatsoever to do with ME.
It never does, because it cannot. By definition, what other people do represents their own perspective, drives and needs. We cannot see from another’s eyes nor walk in their moccasins, so we don’t know for sure what motivates them. People generally do what they do because they believe it is best for them. And we may understand a fraction of their process for getting there if that much–or think we do.
The funny thing is, when I remember this night, I see different things at different points in my life, too. My perspective has changed, which changes the meaning of the incident to me. One can only see through their own eyes; the range of color visible is completely determined by beliefs.

This week is a lot like that.

Lots of inverted cards. Life is going to be moving a little slower than most of us would prefer. Doesn’t mean nothing is happening, only that you have to take your time and work your way through, patiently. Know that the superficial appearances do not necessarily represent a greater reality. Withhold judgement.
I know, I know.
But it will keep you out of trouble, honest.
Monday, Justice: Be fair, be balanced, and weigh out the facts. Take your time to make sure all is fair, and don’t expect unfair advantage for yourself or capitulate to demands of others for unfair advantage. Fair, fair, fair! All things must remain even-handed for the best possible outcome.
Tuesday, Ace of Pentacles rx: Trouble getting going–starting the car, hearing your alarm, waking up, getting a new project underway? Just part of the vibe today. Take it slow and easy. Determination is fine, but don’t get frustrated if it takes two or three shots at the basket to get the ball through the hoop.
Wednesday, Strength rx: Feeling tone similar to yesterday. Impatience or potential tendency to give up. Like when you are a crocheter, and you mess up, you may have to undo and redo, trying more than once to get the hang of up. Don’t throw up your hands and give up! Relax a bit. Acknowledge yes, give yourself some space, and come back to it later for a better result. You’ll get it eventually.
Thursday, Five of Wands rx: Don’t fight! This is the battle card. Reversed, I’d advise you to choose your battles and know, most are not worth fighting. Politics, for example, would be best left off the Thanksgiving menu. Look for the kindness and thoughtfulness and positive qualities of the people in your vicinity and ignore the rest and you’ll have a good day. Happy Thanksgiving!
Friday, Nine of Pentacles rx: Some knowledge is eluding you due lack of emotional readiness. You may be hearing part of the story, some of the facts are not being included. Just let situations ride without having to draw conclusions this red hot minute. It will work out better that way.
Saturday, Four of Swords rx: Difficulty relaxing and possibility that folks are wound up. Get the fact this is an emotional event, not an outer reality event. If you’re focusing on the spot on the carpet instead of the rest of the (very clean carpet), your experience will be dominated by the spot, not the nice bits. Be aware of the power of your focus.
Sunday, Eight of Pentacles rx: You may not complete all your plans for this time period. Some things may not work just so. That’s okay! Do what you can and realize it’s not the end of the world. Shuffle around what doesn’t get completed. Schedule light, and save some time for something encouraging.
Overview/Advice, Seven of Cups: A cautionary tale, the moral of which you don’t know what you don’t know. Things are not always as they seem. The feel around this entire week is that deliberate, conscious action, focusing on what you want to see and dismissing what you dislike, and allowing things to play out is the best course. Some things are just not as the initially appear, both on a personal level as well as collective level. Reserve judgement. And I wouldn’t be running my mouth about controversial topics lest I end up eating those words later.
Affirmation: I prosper wherever I turn. If you want to be more prosperous as most do, start looking for what is already going well. Many times people looking for more whatever in their lives, we begin focusing on what makes us want that prosperity–the lack! Start looking for what is already working to turn up the FEELING of prosperity. Don’t bother taking score, but look for ways you can feel it now, turning up appreciation. This is how you attract prosperity from multiple directions.
Have you noticed seeing what you believe?
