01/27/14: Not By Default / Hierophant

Heierophant

“Those of us who submitted or surrendered our ideas and dreams and identities to the ‘leaders’ must take back our rights, our identities, our responsibilities.” –Maya Angelou

Who is leading you? What conventions do you follow? Does it add to your joy?

The Hierophant in the position of “What You Can Change” has a rather pointed message. We cannot blame anyone else for our troubles! Because it’s always our option to change our advisors, our religion, our role models or our orthodoxy. Pointing at someone or something else as justification for decisions will not cut it.

You may well choose not to change—yourself, your leaders or your style. But awareness is still important. Sometimes the difference between victory and defeat is conscious, considered commitment. Just because “it’s always been done that way” doesn’t mean that’s always the way to do it.

Live by choice, not by default.

Do you sometimes feel like you’re living by default?

  1. Sometimes, yes. I’m busting my ass right now to try to follow my gut and my heart, even as I wobble between “this is all going to work out for the best” (because it usually does) and “OMG this is ridiculous and making me horribly anxious”.

I know what wins is always the “work out for the best”. The uncharted territory thing, though…that makes me crazy. Hence the seesaw.

Is it wrong for me to blame the weather right now? lol

  2. Interesting card today! We’re watching a series on HBO “True detective”, it’s dark. Last night’s episode the detectives were visiting an evangelical church during services (you know how we feel about these lol). Matthew McConaughey, 1 of the main characters, goes on a tangent about religion. It was quite profound, at least to me. It parallels what you write today.

I love that it follows the 2 of cups. I wrote both cups have to be “upright”. With 2 parties or sides (like a board of directors) both sides have to CHOOSE to be upright (ethical). The Hierophant in this card seems a little holier-than-thou to me. Like the preacher/board (even B at times) can claim they’re doing what’s in the best interest of … but how upright are they really. 100% of the time? 50%? 25%? Very WISE words reminding us to live by choice, especially with the 2 cards together.

Sorry for the long winded post. The cards are speaking to me, I LOVE you using the deck of 1000 spreads for the positions.

    1. Very cool, TracIE! I love when folks are seeing the flow of the dailies in their own lives. And yes, this Heirophant does seem to have a bit of an attitude, huh? Like he’s just a touch smug.

I have seen similar situations to what you mention play out in so many ways. People will say it’s “all for the children” or for the best interests of this or that and sometimes, totally miss themselves and their own issues along the way. That’s a serious mistake, sometimes with significant impact…

Always love when the cards speak to my people! Thanks for sharing that. ♥
