“A hierophant is a person who brings religious congregants into the presence of that which is deemed holy. The word comes from Ancient Greece, where it was constructed from the combination of ta hiera, “the holy,” and phainein, “to show.” In Attica it was the title of the chief priest at the Eleusinian Mysteries. A hierophant is an interpreter of sacred mysteries and arcane principles.” -Wikipedia
Have you noticed, I’ve been drawing this guy a lot lately? Both here and elsewhere. I’m never entirely sure if I’m influenced by the cosmic weather at large when I note these repeats or if the work I’m doing is influenced by the energy I’m surrounded by at the time. One could, however, argue it’s all one and the same, so who cares?
I’ve started to study Hermeticism. That’s an excellent example of accessing the Hierophant’s energy. While I don’t accept anything I study wholesale, I do look for the foundational building blocks of truth that I can use as either foundation or stepping stones in my personal journey. But you can access this any time you look to the sacred, time-honored teachings of the mysteries, whether you’re studying the Bible or witchcraft or Tarot or Kaballah or any of the infinite forms of the infinite. It’s all one and the same, appearing in different outfits, you know?
This is the gift of the Hierophant. Perhaps, someday, I can be as he is, the teacher of mystical truths and keeper of the keys of knowledge, to assist those seeking more than ever. That’s my dream—to transform myself from Hierophant’s student to one of his ranks. Except, of course, I don’t know that he ever quits being student entirely. But that’s okay. I have the most respect for teachers who never lose their curiosity.
What’s your relationship to the Hierophant?
