Everyday Tarot, 05/24/11: Want vs. Need /Inverted 3 of Wands

daily-tarot-forecast-inverted-three-wands-new-visionsLife has a way of turning things upside down in ways we could never have imagined, left to our own devices. Why, just a month ago, I would never have guessed I’d be over here at A Fool’s Journey, working on making this place a real home for myself and the seekers who drop in, you know? But then, there it is. Things change. It’s just one bullet point on a very long list of bits and pieces of my life that turned out drastically different from how I’d  planned. Welcome to reality, Dixie!

Today’s Tarot Forecast is the inverted Three of Wands, or Lord of Established Strength, associated with the Aries sun. Tarot threes indicate creativity and dynamic changes—the energy that’s been invested here is about to bear fruit. I always think of “waiting for one’s ship to come in” when I see this card, except it’s not a passive thing. He knows the ship is coming because he chartered it himself! Inverted, I’d expect delays or disappointment in the cargo.

I often don’t get what I want. But when I look deep down, I realize I do better than just getting the prize I was aiming for, even when I don’t get what I want. Instead, I may collect knowledge, wisdom and skills from the “failed ventures.” I grow.

If you have done the work to get where you are, and remain open to whatever lessons exist in that creation, you still may not get what you want. Many times, we just don’t. But there’s also a very good possibility you’ll get what you need. Of the two, that’s far more valuable. I’ll take it, gratefully.

Are you getting what you want, or what you need? Or maybe a little of both?

  1. After dealing with a wrecked knee for a week, I’m just grateful to be getting better, and walking more each day! Whew. Last week was kinda rough. Glad for a better start to this week.
And – I got what I wanted as well – info on what to do for my knee instead of what the dr. wanted to do 9 years ago.

  2. Funny how yesterday I couldn’t get the Stones song “You can’t always get what you want” out of my head and then you have this today.

“And if you try, you just might find you get what need.”

  3. I’m very lucky in that I want what I need the vast majority of the time. The unlucky is that I rarely get either.

Lucky again? I’m happy about it, either way.

  4. The dept manager at one of my stores is going through one hell of a time right now, through no fault of her own. She’s got her grand baby with her, as well as one of her kids, and the house she was paying rent on went into foreclosure. She’s just freaking out. I think of her daily, and I told her that yesterday. Then I gave her my number and told her I was serious as a heart attack that I want her to call me if I can help in any way.

She looked at me like this: 0_o I told her that the darkest times open the brightest windows, and I’ve been there, done that. I’m more than willing to give back. I get what I need, even if I don’t want it. When I’m anxious and fretting, I know I’m on the wrong path.

On a different but similar note:

Two days ago, I had an idea how to make things a bit easier financially around here after a month of Lee working on first his son’s car (in Minneapolis – 160 mile round trip with gas so high, and him buying the parts!) and then his granddaughter’s car ($170 out of pocket for us). They are both so poor they can’t pay attention. I wasn’t real comfortable with it at first, but I wasn’t feeling “FREAK OUT”, so I figured I’d give it a whirl.

I addressed it yesterday, and it got stymied due to some weird little wrinkle. So I let it go, drove towards home/dixiblog/domains/afoolsjourney.com/public_html working on a Plan B…and my cell rang. It’s on! I’m heading out today to finalize it and give us some breathing room.

I’m learning to listen to my gut.
