Heard some reports on Mother’s Day. Sounds very much like it was a mixed bag for many. I was lucky—I had a quiet, low-drama day, just the way I like it. I received a boatload of well wishes, and my husband made sure to pay me a little extra attention. That’s not easy, since I already command a fair amount of his attention as it is. Ha!
Considering we’ve just had Mother’s Day and it’s undoubtedly still on many people’s minds, I wasn’t too surprised to see the card for the daily Tarot forecast.
We have the Empress, also called “Daughter of the Mighty Ones” and associated with Venus. As a Tarot three, she speaks to motherhood—after all, Mother plus Father makes baby, for three! When you see the Empress, focus on mothering, nurturing, or the birth of some creative project, as it’s imminent.
I have an easier time with holidays than many do, probably because I didn’t grow up celebrating them. I haven’t had the expectations of how things “have to be” for a proper celebration drilled into my consciousness all my life. As a result, I am more comfortable than most altering my expectations to reality and happily choosing non-traditional celebrations. For me, it’s about what makes me happy, not what the day “should” mean.
Mother’s Day to me, for example, is a celebration of mothering in its infinite forms: creating, nurturing, tending and caring for life, in any form. So my favorite ways of celebrating include nurturing MYSELF! Like planting flowers. Or watching a movie. Or spending extra time with my beloved kitties. Although you won’t see my style of celebration in a TV commercial, I can’t imagine having better holidays any other way. I recommend the approach.
The Empress card would have you ask what nurtures you, what feeds your soul? Give this to yourself, and generously—it grows new life, new avenues of creativity. Venus speaks to what you love, and what’s beautiful in your life. The seeds are already planted, needing a little nourishment to grow now. So just add in some love! It’s not selfish to mother yourself sometimes; you can best care for others if you’ve cared well for yourself.
Are you feeling nurtured right now? Can you think of ways to turn it up?
