On my Radar: Cleaning out the Closets

I often cringe when I get those pings it’s time to purge. Not because I don’t appreciate the results, but more because it can be such an all-encompassing and sometimes overwhelming chore.

But whaddya gonna do, man? It is what it is. It doesn’t have to be done all at once.

Lately, it’s been occurring to me to ask, what’s the nature of the stuff I have around me? Who gave it to me, and under what circumstance? What’s the function of the material, and how may that impact the energy and flow in my home space?

An old, broken down car in front of the house? Lousy Feng Shui. I mean, how on Earth can you expect to ever get anywhere in your life when that’s the symbolism, the energy that surrounds you saying different?

And then there are gifts. Even if you like the object, what sort of energy does it carry? It is an energetic connection to the giver. Is that what you want? Was it given in good intention? Is the giver still in a good energetic space? Is the connection, how it was and how it is, something you want to maintain in your life?

Are there clothes that don’t fit anymore? May be former identities, showing you where you’ve been more so than where you are. Look to hold on to what fits as you evolve and let go of what doesn’t, making room for who you are becoming.

Stuff you just haven’t touched in years? Perhaps there is stagnant, outmoded energy in your life. Time to resurrect it by giving it attention, or maybe slate it for another use so it can serve another.

These little nooks and crannies in our home mirror little nooks and crannies in our energy fields, in our lives. Symbolic and magical connection between the literal and the metaphorical surround us, if we choose to pay mind.

If you’re feeling in a rut,  if you want all the old, stale, flat energy out of your life to make way for fresh and alive, a great way to get going is clean out those closets. God, I need to!
