“I’m going outside for a little while,” I tell my husband, stepping out of my work area. I had been trying to nail down somewhat elusive specifics for one of my Tarot peeps. I felt like I was getting periphery information, but not the specifics I was seeking.
“Are you okay?” he asks me.
“Yeah, I’m fine. I just need to decompress and ground.”
“On the phone a lot?”
“No, email work. But I’m still feeling spacey.”
“You mean spacey-ER,” he corrected me with a grin.
I told him to shut up.
Or at least I think I did. I don’t remember exactly. I was feeling kind of spacey.
What do you do when you are feeling spacey?
I do what you do. Ground.
I like to go outside and poke around in my flower beds when weather permits. Maybe pull a few weeds or prune a few dead blooms.
It also helps, if I have time, to soak in the bathtub or turn on some music to distract my brain from itself for awhile.
Cooking has been a recent distraction for me. I don’t know if it will stick around once this Cancer season is over or if it’s just a passing thing. But, it has been helping lately.
Ah, baths and showers are great! I refer to that as “washing off the day.” Cooking is good too. The physicality of it, the connection to food, the “move and do” mindset are very helpful for returning from spacey.
